I’ve been working on detangling myself from my output 🤗

Hiiii it’s just a picture of me with no illustrations at all! WOW!

I’ve told you before that I’m a recovering perfectionist, but it gets even harder to overcome it as a small business owner and content creator who makes things for public consumption… and often makes things that talk about hard things.

This season of celebrating & looking forward to the @target launch on Sunday (🤯) was preceded by a lot of wrestling, pivoting, unplugging, stopping, starting, listening, crying, asking, studying, and wondering… Do I want to keep talking about these things? Do people still care? Should I do something else? Do I need to keep up with all that’s new? How can I do more, speak up more, make more, to keep up? To be worthy?

The work of healing has brought me back to words that I always say to all of you. It’s been making a habit of reminding myself that I’m already worthy. 💛

I’m worthy in motion, and worthy at rest.

Worthy when resisting, and worthy when just existing.

Worthy when creating, and worthy as a creation.

The hard things will always be there. But grace will always be there too. And I’m working to live a life that involves a lot less striving and a lot more leaning into the imperfect, the messy, the fun, the challenging, and the consistent reminder that we are always, always worthy of every good thing. No matter what.

That’s a reminder that I’ll keep holding on to! I hope you do too ❤️

When I look at the top posts from this year, do you know what I see? Some things that I hope I never have to say again! ✌🏾 What are you saying goodbye to?

I spent a good chunk of the year in therapy & community trying to heal from the trauma associated with feeling like I have to be perfect and productive 24/7 (plus… everything else lol). I felt like I had to get into spaces and change people’s minds, sitting at tables that only made space for me so they could check “diversity” off of their to-do lists. I found myself debating with people over basic human rights, having to fight for nuance and a “both/and” perspective.

I am soooooo so so excited to be saying goodbye to all of that 🎉

I’m going deeper, not wider, focusing my attention on cultivating spaces and resources for people like YOU: those who understand how much the world needs love, justice, and mercy, and who want to find a way to be better at that. I’m not fighting to be at tables, I’m building new ones. I’m releasing perfection and letting people see me as the worthy work-in-progress that I am. 🤗

I’m gonna keep serving my community on and offline, speaking truth in love, and blossoming into what the cocoon of 2021 prepared me to become. I’m going to play and lead and have fun and be adventurous and build deeper relationships!! I’m going to keep living! 🌱

Like my mentor said, while injustice is something that will always need to be torn down, creators are here to build things up. To reimagine. To breathe life into things. And that’s what we’re gonna do.

Happy 2022! We’re doing the dang thing!! 😉
