[New digital download!] I really love digging into [New digital download!] I really love digging into words, and “dignity” has been one of my favorites to learn about lately! It’s the right of a person to be valued and respected for their own sake, and to be treated ethically. It’s the inherent worth and value found in every single person, regardless of who they are, how they identify, or where they live!! ✨

Dignity is a human right, and treating each other with dignity should be our default setting - but this isn’t always the case. I’m so thankful for orgs like @lovebeyondwalls who are doing all they can to ensure that people are affirmed in their worth, regardless of their present circumstances!!

I LOVE this quote and asked them if I could turn it into art 🤩 so this piece is now available in the print shop as a digital download for the month of March, and all proceeds from it will go to this amazing organization!

Love Beyond Walls was founded by @imterencelester and exists to create a world where no one is invisible. From building mobile hand washing stations to providing access to critical, life-saving services, Love Beyond Walls serves people experiencing homelessness in Atlanta (and all over the country, honestly) with a passion and love that keeps inspiring me to love my neighbor in both word and deed!!

As we head into the weekend, here are 3 tips from @lovebeyondwalls on affirming the dignity of someone without an address:
💛 Make eye contact. Looking away communicates disgust.
💛 Ask a person their name, or call them by their name. Acknowledgment says: “I see you.”
💛 Greet a person and ask about their day!

Have a lovely weekend!! Smile at someone through your mask 😷
Today is Shine a Light on Slavery Day ❌ An estim Today is Shine a Light on Slavery Day ❌ An estimated 40.3 million people are currently trapped in slavery around the world. According to @ecpatusa, “populations who are more vulnerable to traffickers include those who are victims of generational trauma and systemic inequalities, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community and communities of color.”

Although the stats are quite grim, we’re not without hope in this fight against modern-day slavery!! Here are a few tips that I gathered from the @enditmovement, a cause supporting a coalition of organizations working to fight human trafficking (like @a21 & @ijm)!

🔦 Travel (safely, of course!) with responsible hotel companies trained to identify and report trafficking
🔦 Be aware of the signs of potential victims of trafficking, but avoid racial profiling or stereotyping communities of people
🔦 Get educated on the prevalence of human trafficking and which communities are most at risk! You can find documentaries, Digital downloads, hotlines, and other resources at enditmovement.com/take-action/
🔦 Support organizations who are on the ground and doing the work

Awareness is helpful, but action is transformational. The fight for freedom continues ❤️ #enditmovement #shinealightonslavery
While reflecting on the 1 year anniversary of Ahma While reflecting on the 1 year anniversary of Ahmaud Arbery’s murder, I was reminded of the conversations I’d overhear my mother having with my brother before he’d leave the house. A conversation that most parents of Black children are all too familiar with:

“Wear bright colors.”
“Go a familiar way.”
“Take off your hoodie.”
“Play during the day.”

In a recent article by Curtis Bunn, “'Everyone should be safe when they run': The lasting trauma of Ahmaud Arbery's shooting,” Black runners recount similar memories from their childhood, as well as running practices they still abide by today:

"I have changed everything. I've seen people in their car slow down as I run and look at me in their rearview mirror to make sure I was not robbing their house. I have come up on white ladies who scream just because they see me run by them... I don't jog as much when it's dark, and when I do I make sure I'm wearing reflectors. I'm nervous about running in black jogging clothes... It's all different. We have to be self-aware." - Kevin O. Davis, a Black runner from Texas. 🏃🏾

As Black people continue to live by unwritten rules meant to keep us safe, I still hope for the day where we won’t have to fear being attacked for existing. It’s up to society as a whole to continue the work of eliminating internalized racism & bias... not seeing each other as threats, but as humans - worthy & loved 💛

Here’s the thing about being actively anti-racis Here’s the thing about being actively anti-racist...

Regardless of which community is experiencing oppression, what month of the year we’re in, or what the nuances are concerning specific details and facts, one thing remains true: we condemn hate. We reject racism, violence, and xenophobia. And we do so by listening to the affected communities, amplifying their voices, and speaking out in solidarity.

And, when we do sit and have conversations regarding the work we ALL still need to do, we do so while ALWAYS centering the needs of the community at hand. This is the work of the beloved community. This is how we foster collective liberation.

To my Asian followers and friends, I wholeheartedly condemn the Anti-Asian violence & hate taking place against your community. I stand with you - (YES, even during Black History Month… which should NEVER be a deterrent to speaking out, by the way), because this is what it’s all about. Equity, justice, reconciliation, intersectionality.

We’ll refuse to let white supremacy pit us against each other or let “oppression olympics” distract from the situation at hand. And we’ll continue to do this for each other, all year long, as often as necessary.

Friends, please look into the recent uptick in Anti-Asian violence taking place in America. I’ve been sharing resources in my stories and have personally been learning from @michellekimkim, @jocekittyllama, @christineyisuh, and @teachandtransform. Amplifying them here so you can read their stories.

This is love. The kind of love that drives out hate. 💙 #StopAAPIHate
